a place to decompress

One of the things I love about Open Bay is how quiet it is. I was only there for a night and had to leave in the morning, but I still managed to decompress. The place is very conducive to a good night sleep. I had a great run in the morning. It had just rained so I could smell the fresh scent of all new spring vegetation. I ran to the end of Valdez Road for a quick peak at the ocean and back. There were so many birds out and nettle growing in big patches everywhere. I returned to an email from a Quadra Island friend asking if her visiting family might stay for a week. Our first booking! Time to order the bed, and probably a hide-a-bed too. Nice to have the phone in.

a quick visit

Checking in on the cottage this weekend as our son Des will be mountain-bike racing in Cumberland. It will be great to have our little home away from home to stay in. I’ll be checking to see if the phone is hooked up and that everything is in good shape for ordering the new bed! Looking forward to a forest run and to bringing home some more nettle.

spring maintenance

Peter repaired the post on the front deck that was causing it to sag. We cleaned up the clearing and cleared off the deck of debris, lots of branches. Peter patched up a few holes to make sure there won’t be any mice moving in this spring. I’m thinking we should bring in a hide-away-bed for the sitting room. Some luxurious bedding I acquired is waiting for a new bed for the bedroom too. I don’t think I’ll post photos of inside the cottage until it is set up with these things. So many details to consider, but it’s coming along!

early spring at the cottage

Heading up to Quadra Island to do some spring maintenance on the cottage this week: putting on a little paint, scrubbing the decks, making lists of needed supplies for the summer such as new linens and baking dishes. Looking forward to seeing everything greening up outside. Wondering if the Salmon Berry will be blooming yet. The nettles will be prolific. Thinking I might make some nettle quiche, with eggs from the neighbour’s chickens.
